Busy Spring Ahead!

After a tiring fall semester there is a lot to be excited for looking forward! As I move into my final semester of graduate school it’s looking to be a busy semester of singing!

In January I’ll be singing with the North Carolina Opera Chorus in Carmen, this is my first time singing with this company and I’m having a blast! In February I’ll be singing Peter in Hänsel and Gretel with UNCG Opera Theatre for Opera at the Carolina. In March I’ll come back to Peter in Hänsel and Gretel as I cover the role for Greensboro Opera. Finally, in April I will make my role debut as Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff with UNCG Opera Theatre!

I’m so thankful for all the opportunities that UNCG and the Triad has had for me this past year and a half and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead!

Snowy Greensboro, Staying Present

When moving to the south, snow was not something that I expected to happen quite so often as in the midwest. Two and a half snow days, eight inches of snow and the realization that every business in Greensboro shuts down for snow later, my expectations are officially shattered.

Before the big snow I had the great opportunity to sing in the chorus for Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Greensboro Opera. Getting to share a stage with guys like Andrew Owens and David Pershall was a much needed experience. The whole cast of principles were not only extremely talented musicians, but genuinely good people and great role models for young singers. Seeing how these people who make music all over the world treat others is a great reminder for me that this business is not about impressing people. Impressing people does not make a difference in people's lives, making art, however, does. It's very easy to get burnt out from all the practicing, rehearsals, languages and classes (especially in academia), but being able to create with these great performers was a great refresher for me going into the new semester.

As I am through the second week of this semester (albeit a short two weeks) I am excited to start work with UNCG Opera Theatre's production of Die Zauberflöte. Through this excitment, I find myself battling impatience, always wanting to be one or two (or five) steps ahead. I feel like in this world it is an easy thing to get caught up in, never living in the present. I stumbled upon this quote and I think I'll end this post with it.

"You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment."
 - Henry David Thoreau

Hello from North Carolina

Greetings from my new State!

My first semester of Graduate School starts in two weeks and Greensboro is turning out to be a dream of a city!

My graduate assistantship that I mentioned in my last post (in April, oops), will be part time in the Opera Department and a part time TA position with a music history course. As part of my duties for the Opera Department I will be given the opportunity to be cast in an outreach opera program that goes to surrounding elementary schools!

I am beyond excited to be going back to school and I look forward to all that I will be learning and experiencing. I hope to update this fairly regularly with news on what is coming next!

Update Long Over Due

Hello all!! I have not been keeping up with this section so I thought it was high time to write an update!

Dead Man Walking with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City was an amazing and educational experience for me. Being able to watch and observe professionals rehearse and perform was a great opportunity to learn and grow as a musician and performer myself!

Furthermore, rehearsals for Pirates of Penzance with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City have started and are going extremely well! I'm grateful for the opportunity to perform at the Kauffman Center one last time before I head off to graduate school. The performances are April 22nd, 26th and 28th at 7:30 and April 29th and 30th at 2:00!

You can purchase tickets for Pirates of Penzance at:  https://www.kcopera.org/tickets/

This leads me into the biggest announcement, I have been offered and will accept an offer from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro including a Graduate Assistantship in the Voice Area! I am very excited to start this next chapter in my career and education! I am so very thankful for the support and love I have received through this whole process of grad school hunting!!

Here's to new beginnings and exciting opportunities!
